Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Steve Jobs, 28 Days Later) is teaming up with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral) on an untitled comedy movie from Universal Pictures.
Plot details on the comedy are currently being kept under wraps, but it is known to be a musically-themed film that is set in the 1960s or 1970s. If casting can come together, Universal is planning to begin shooting as early as this summer.
It was recently reported that MGM had Boyle high on their list to direct the next James Bond movie, starring Daniel Craig. Boyle, along with his screenwriting partner, John Hodge, were reportedly writing a standalone James Bond story and MGM would decide which direction to go in once the script was turned in. There have been no details released on whether or not the Bond project will impact Universal’s untitled comedy as there have been no announcements yet on production or a release date.
The Universal comedy is being produced by Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner alongside Matt Wilkinson and Bernie Bellow. Boyle and Curtis are also producing, with Nick Angel and Lee Brazier serving as executive producers. Erik Baiers, Executive VP of production, will oversee the project for Universal.
