The Hollywood Reporter brings word that director Robert Rodriguez is set to team up with screenwriter Max Borenstein for Hypnotic, a new sci-fi thriller from Studio 8.
Rodriguez previously penned the script with Borenstein now set to do a rewrite. The Sin City filmmaker will produce and direct the project, which is described as “a grounded cop thriller with sci-fi elements.”
The El Mariachi director’s next project is the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel, the long-in-development project from filmmaker James Cameron starring Rosa Salazar. Rodriguez is most noted for the range of his films, which includes the likes of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Planet Terror, Machete, and all four of the Spy Kids films plus The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. The upcoming Alita will arrive in theaters on December 21.
Borenstein has made a career out of monster movies, penning the scripts for 2014’s Godzilla, last year’s Kong: Skull Island, and the upcoming Godzilla: King of Monsters. He also worked on The Minority Report TV series for FOX.
