A nine-time Academy Award nominee for Best Costume Design, Colleen Atwood’s talents have brought moviegoers to the roaring twenties with Rob Marshall’s Chicago, to the old West in Lawrence Kasdan’s Wyatt Earp and across a myriad of other fantastic realities, teaming with Tim Burton for nine different live-action projects, including the recent Dark Shadows. This Friday, Atwood lends her skills to Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman.
A reimagining of the classic fairytale, the action-adventure stars Charlize Theron as the evil queen, a malevolent ruler who, determined to be the fairest in the land, dispatches a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to kill a young woman, Snow White (Kristen Stewart). The film reunites Atwood with producer Joe Roth, both of whom worked on 2010’s Alice in Wonderland.
ComingSoon.net sat down to speak with Atwood, surrounded by quite a few of the film’s elaborate costume pieces. In the below video, she talks about working in a fantasy world, balancing costume design with the film’s intense action pieces and walking the fine line between traditional takes on the Snow White legend and Sanders’ onscreen epic vision.
Snow White and the Huntsman arrives in theaters on Friday, June 1st.
