Earlier today, ComingSoon.net had the chance to speak with seven-time Academy Award-winning special makeup effects artist Rick Baker about his extensive alien design work for the upcoming Men in Black 3. We’ll have the full interview available soon, but Baker also dropped an exciting piece of news about his involvement with another major film, Walt Disney Pictures’ Maleficent, set to star Angelina Jolie as the evil fairy from their animated classic, Sleeping Beauty.
“They’re just starting that now,” Baker said. “I designed the makeup for Angelina Jolie. At this point, I’m actually finished with that part of it.”
The film, to be directed by Robert Stromberg with a script by Linda Woolverton, also stars Elle Fanning, Kenneth Cranham, Lesley Manville, Miranda Richardson, Sam Riley and Imelda Staunton with Sharlto Copley also said to be in talks.
There’s no word yet on exactly what kind of a visual transition the character of Maleficent will make heading into live-action, but Baker, in the past, achieved something similar with his work on Jim Carrey’s makeup in Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Jolie has previously confirmed that Maleficent’s horns, at least, will remain intact.
You can catch Baker’s work in Men in Black 3 in theaters May 25th and Maleficent on March 14, 2014.
