Legendary gains the rights to comic book Nonplayer with Thor: Ragnarok writer on the script
Legendary has grabbed the rights to the comic book Nonplayer from writer-illustrator Nate Simpson, according to Deadline. The script will be written by Eric Pearson, who was a co-writer on the Disney/Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok, starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Tessa Thompson. He’s also written on the ABC series Marvel’s Agent Carter. Simpson is the author and illustrator on Nonplayer. Brendan Graham, Ben Templesmith and Moritat all have pinups in the comic. Simpson and Image Comics released Nonplayer in 2011. Nonplayer 2 was released in 2015. There have been a number of prints and variants released for the comic book series.
Nonplayer is the story of a tamale delivery girl named Dana Stevens who lives out her fantasy life through a video game where she’s a powerful warrior. Something goes wrong and the game enters the real world. Dana has to live her fantasy life for real.
Nonplayer is described on Amazon as follows: “The future kind of sucks, and that goes double for Dana Stevens – she’s stuck in a dead-end tamale delivery job, and she’s way too old to be living with her mom. But in the online fantasy world of Jarvath, she’s an elite warrior. When she slays the wife of celebrity game character King Heremoth, her fame seems all but guaranteed – that is, until the game spins totally out of control.”
Legendary’s next big release will be Pacific Rim Uprising, directed by Steven S. DeKnight and starring John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Attack the Block), Scott Eastwood (The Fate of the Furious, Snowden), Jing Tian (The Great Wall, Kong: Skull Island), Wesley Wong (Buxiude Shiguang, Sorry I Love You), Lily Ji (Skiptrace, Transformers: Age of Extinction), Lan Yingying (Surgeons Story, Empresses in the Palace), Qian Yongchen (The War of Beauties, The Golden Age of the Leftover Ladies), Zhang Jin (Ip Man 3, Kill Zone 2).
