At the press line before Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation, ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with superstar producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura about G.I. Joe: Retaliation and before he was whisked away, we quickly asked him about some of the other projects he had in the works including RED 2. One long-in-development he’s excited about finally making happen is the Untitled Jack Ryan Project, starring Chris Pine, which he hopes to start shooting in September, presumably with Kenneth Branagh (Thor) who has been in negotiations to direct.
Di Bonaventra’s exact optimistic words when talking about the project were:
“I think we’re going to go this September. It looks pretty good right now. Not guaranteed but hopefully…”
So for all you Tom Clancy and Jack Ryan fans who have been anxiously awaiting his big screen return for ten years since Ben Affleck played him in The Sum of All Fears, there’s definitely a light at the end of the tunnel that maybe we’ll see another Jack Ryan movie by 2014. (In the meantime, we’re very excited about what Paramount is doing to bring Lee Child’s Jack Reacher to the big screen, which you can read more about later today.)
You can also watch the rest of our brief interview with di Bonaventura as well as a recap of some of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation footage we’ve had a chance to see that’s not shown in the new trailer sometime later today.
