The Dictator Moves Back Five Days

By this point in April, the summer release schedule tends to be set, but we have a bit of last minute shuffling for next month as Paramount Pictures has decided to move the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator back a few days to open on Wednesday, May 16.

Presumably, this is to get away from the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp comedy version of Dark Shadows, which is opening on May 11–ironically, Cohen appeared in Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, also distributed by Paramount–but it also gives it a bit more breathing room from the May 4 release of Marvel’s The Avengers. It now opens two days before Universal’s Battleship, directed by Peter Berg.
