With Warner Bros.‘ Wonder Woman arriving onto Blu-ray and DVD next week, The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Patty Jenkins will return to direct Wonder Woman 2! Because Jenkins was only contracted for one movie, which went on to gross a wondrous $816 million worldwide, she was able to leverage a deal making her the highest-paid female filmmaker in history, earning between $7 and $9 million plus a healthy chunk of the back-end gross for the sequel. That seems only fair given that Wonder Woman has outgrossed all three previous DC Extended Universe movies (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad) domestically and is the first to receive critical acclaim.
Previously best known for directing the Oscar-winning Monster and AMC’s The Killing, Jenkins has already begun co-writing the screenplay for Wonder Woman 2 with co-chairman of DC Films Geoff Johns, which she has previously stated will take Diana to America. Gal Gadot has already signed on to reprise her role in the second solo film, which is slated for release on December 13, 2019.
