How I Met Your Mother spinoff How I Met Your Dad in development again with new writers
There have been two attempts to create a How I Met Your Mother spinoff. Back in 2014, How I Met Your Dad was in development with Meg Ryan doing a voiceover and starring Greta Gerwig, though the network passed on it. Last season, 20th Century Fox TV tried it with This Is Us co-executive producers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker. Aptaker and Berger are now, of course, working on that show, which became a hit.
Now, according to Deadline, How I Met Your Dad is in development with new writers. FOX chairman Dana Walden told the site, “They will be starting from scratch. It’s one that’s been slowly cooked. If it’s the right idea, the right execution, we’ll take that.”
After 208 episodes told over nine seasons, the story of how Ted Mosby ultimately meets his children’s mother ended on March 31, 2013, though many fans were vocally disappointed about how the show’s ending was handled. How I Met Your Mother starred Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Cristin Milioti. The show was narrated by Bob Saget, who was the voice of the older Ted Mosby. Carter Bays, Craig Thomas, Pamela Fryman, Stephen Lloyd, Chris Harris, Chuck Tatham, Jamie Rhonheimer and Kourtney Kang were executive producers for Twentieth Century Fox Television. The series was created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The show was nominated for 28 Emmy Awards over its nine seasons, ultimately winning nine of them.
