Jodie Whittaker announced as the 13th Doctor!
The BBC and BBC America announced today that Jodie Whittaker will play the 13th Doctor on Doctor Who! She will be the Thirteenth Time Lord and take over from Peter Capaldi who leaves the global hit show at Christmas. New head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, who takes over from Steven Moffat on the next series, made the decision to cast the first ever woman in the iconic role.
The 35-year-old Jodie Whittaker has starred in such films as St Trinianâs, Good, St Trinianâs 2, and Attack the Block. She has also appeared in the television series Tess of the DâUrbervilles, Wired, Return to Cranford, Marchlands, Black Mirror, Broadchurch, The Assets, and Trust Me.
Jodie Whittaker says: âIâm beyond excited to begin this epic journey â with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. Itâs more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I canât wait.â

Doctor Who Series 10, which just wrapped up earlier this month, marked the third and final series starring Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor. Capaldi is set to appear one more time as the character for the showâs 2017 Christmas Special, which is appropriately titled âThe Doctors.â
Since the series returned in 2006, four actors have taken on the titular role including Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Capaldi.
Doctor Who, which began broadcasting on BBCÂ America in 2005, follows the Doctor, an alien from a race called the Time Lords whose home planet is Gallifrey, and is created by Sydney Newman (The Avengers), and Executive Produced by Russell T.
