Doctor Who series 10, which just wrapped up earlier this month, marked the third and final series starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. Capaldi is set to appear one more time as the character for the show’s 2017 Christmas Special which is appropriately titled “The Doctors.”
Since the series returned in 2006, four actors have taken on the titular role including Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Capaldi. It remains to be seen who will take on the role of the Doctor moving forward though there has been fan outcry for a female doctor for many years.
Doctor Who, which began broadcasting on BBC America in 2005, follows the Doctor, an alien from a race called the Time Lords whose home planet is Gallifrey, and is created by Sydney Newman (The Avengers), and Executive Produced by Russell T. Davies (Torchwood), Julie Gardner (Torchwood), Steven Moffat (Sherlock), Phil Collinson (Coronation Street), Piers Wenger (How I Live Now), Beth Willis (Doctor Who Confidential), Brian Minchin (Wizards vs. Aliens), Caroline Skinner (Our Girl), and Mal Young (Desperate Scousewives).
