Joe D’Amato’s Beyond the Darkness Coming to Blu-ray

Beyond the Darkness: Notorious Italian horror film comes to Blu-ray totally uncut and remastered

Out of all the repellent movies maverick Italian sleazemeister Joe (Anthropophagus) D’Amato (real name Aristide Massaccesi) made, his traumatic, leering and controversial shocker Buio Omega (aka Beyond the Darkness) is perhaps his very best. And his most upsetting. The movie was a notorious Video Nasty and has endured to become a modern classic of vintage Italian gore horror and now, on July 25th, Severin Films will bring this revolting gem to Blu-ray, newly restored and fully uncut.

The great Cinzia Monreale (The Beyond) and Franca Stoppi (The Other Hell) star in this psycho-sexual sickie featuring torture, cannibalism, necrophilia, unrequited love and other perversions, totally uncensored and set to a pounding score by the latter-day, Claudio Simonetti-free incarnation of Goblin. This is the movie in which D’Amato was infamously accused of using real corpses during a grim cremation scene and now you can see it in all its puke-inducing, skin-tightening glory, restored in HD for the first time ever and packed with exclusive new Special Features.

Available in a standard edition, as well as a limited collector’s edition Blu-ray that comes packaged with the Original Goblin score, which has been newly remastered In Rome By Italian soundtrack restoration maestro Claudio Fuiano, using original vault materials. Customers who pre-order from the Severin webstore can also pick up the “Necro Bundle,” containing the new edition of the movie along with the soundtrack, an air freshener to cover up that unfortunate corpse smell, a reproduction of the original US one sheet poster (full-size 27×39) under the alternate title Buried Alive, a new enamel pin designed by Pseudo Ludo, AND a new t-shirt from Pallbearer Press. Fans of the film will love this bundle to death and are encouraged to act now while supplies last.
