Steve Buscemi has been offered a part in the upcoming New Line comedy Burt Wonderstone, Variety reports.
The script, by Jonathan Goldstein (“The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Bones”) and John Francis Daley (who acted in “Freaks and Geeks”) deals with rival stage magician teams in Las Vegas. The lead character, the titular Wonderstone (Steve Carell), is one half of a two-man group who has to rediscover his love of magic after the loss of his partner. Buscemi would play that partner, Anton, who decides to hang up his act and move away, just as a rival street magician (Jim Carrey) starts to steal Wonderstone’s spotlight.
Buscemi’s “Sopranos” co-star James Gandolfini is also attached to play a supporting role and the hunt is now on for the female lead. The article suggest that Olivia Wilde is high on the studio’s list, but no official negotiations have begun.
