Fresh off wrapping their first feature, Much Ado About Nothing, Joss Whedon and Kai Cole’s micro-studio, Bellwether Pictures, is embarking on its next project. The supernatural romance, In Your Eyes, was written by Whedon and he will also serve as executive producer.
In Your Eyes tells a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.
Brin Hill will direct the feature and Cole will produce along with Michael Roiff and his Night & Day Pictures banner. David Rothenberg will co-produce.
Whedon’s busy fall continues as he is in post on next year’s The Avengers and just wrapped principal photography on Much Ado About Nothing last week. “When I wrote ‘In Your Eyes,’ I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house. I believe, as I did then, that it’s a pretty timeless romance, and now, with the creation of Bellwether Pictures (and Brin Hill’s elegant, passionate take on the piece) I have the opportunity to prove it. (I also have a 37% increase in moxie.) I love this team (especially the girl one) and I can’t wait to see them bring ‘In Your Eyes’ to life.”
Roiff produced Hill’s first feature, Ball Don’t Lie, which starred Nick Cannon, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Melissa Leo. Roiff also produced Adrienne Shelly’s Waitress and is currently in post production on Mike Mohan’s Save the Date starring Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie. “It is incredible working with Joss and Kai. Their enthusiasm is infectious and this entire project really embodies the indie spirit,” Roiff said, “I think that pairing Joss’ fantastic script with Brin’s vision as a filmmaker will make for a truly special film.”
Most recently, Hill wrote the screenplays for Learning to Fly, coming from Walden Media and to be distributed by Fox in March, 2012, and Battle of the Year now filming for Screen Gems for a 2012 release as well.
Hill echoed Roiff’s sentiments: “I’m fired up to be working closely with such creative company and can’t wait to get started on such a dynamic piece of material from the wonderful mind of Joss.”
The movie is fully financed and set to shoot in February, 2012. The filmmakers are currently casting and will begin pre-production later this year.
