Holiday Release Date Changes & More

Hollywood studios made some notable release date changes to big movies this week.

First up, DreamWorks Animation and Paramount have decided to release Puss In Poots one week earlier on October 28. On its new date, the other releases include Anonymous, In Time and Johnny English Reborn, while Johnny Depp-starrer The Rum Diary gets a limited release that day.

Then we move forward to December, where three movies received new dates. The most interesting change out of the three is Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which is now getting sneak previews in select conventional and IMAX theaters on Dec. 16 before opening wide on its previously-announced date of Dec. 21.

Also moved up two days was Paramount’s The Adventures of Tintin, which is now opening on Dec. 21 up against The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, while Disney and DreamWorks’ War Horse has been moved up three days to Dec. 25, where it will face The Darkest Hour. Both “Tintin” and War Horse were directed by Steven Spielberg.

Moving beyond the 2011 holiday season, Warner Bros. has moved up drama The Lucky One four months to Apr. 20, 2012. The studio has also set a Sept. 14, 2012 release date for Ben Affleck’s Argo. Resident Evil: Retribution is opening on that same date. And, as we previously mentioned, WB has also set an Oct. 19, 2012 release for The Gangster Squad.
