Warner Bros. Pictures has set an October 19, 2012 release for Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less director Ruben Fleischer’s The Gangster Squad. Written by Will Beall, the crime thriller stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi and Anthony Mackie. It is described as follows:
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes andif he has his wayevery wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop… except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.
The other films scheduled for that date are Lionsgate’s romantic comedy The Big Wedding, with Amanda Seyfried, Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Robin Williams, Topher Grace, Susan Sarandon, Ben Barnes and Diane Keaton, as well as the Untitled David Chase Musical, starring Brad Garrett and James Gandolfini.
