Tom Cruise is now a lock for the Joseph Kosinksi sci-fi project, Oblivion, which has also officially moved to Universal, Deadline reports.
Rumored for both the studio and the star last month, Oblivion (which has also been listed under the title Horizons), takes place in a future where humanity lives in the clouds, thanks to an irradiated Earth. When the lead character, a repairman named Jak, finds a woman in a crashed ship, his whole world view comes into question.
Kosinski made his directing debut with last year’s TRON: Legacy. He is also still expected to work with Disney on a remake of the studio’s The Black Hole.
Production on Oblivion is said to begin this October with a $100 million budget and an aim for a PG-13 rating.
