According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club, Suicide Squad) is set to portray art world icon Andy Warhol in a biopic penned by acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer Terrence Winter (“Boardwalk Empire,” The Wolf of Wall Street).
Andy Warhol became famous for launching the Pop Art movement in the 1960’s, and his New York studio known as The Factory spawned other famous artists, filmmakers and musicians including Lou Reed and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Openly gay, Warhol’s carefully-curated fashion sense made him one of the world’s most recognized celebrities before his death in 1987 at age 58. He has been portrayed (and parodied) many times onscreen by the likes of Crispin Glover (The Doors), David Bowie (Basquiat), Jared Harris (I Shot Andy Warhol), Guy Pearce (Factory Girl) and Bill Hader (Men in Black III).
Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips) will produce the film (currently titled Warhol) alongside Jared Leto and his Paradox production entity. No director has been mooted yet, though the film will be based on the 1989 book “Warhol: The Biography” by Victor Bockris.
