Michael Mann and Paul Haggis are set to collaborate on Gold, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Haggis will direct the original script with Mann producing.
From “Friday Night Lights” writers Patrick Massett and John Zinman, the story is described as a contemporary take on The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, featuring prospectors on the search for the titular precious metal.
Haggis, who will likely have a hand in rewriting the screenplay for Gold, most recently wrote and directed The Next Three Days. Mann’s most recent directorial project was 2009’s Public Enemies, though he’s producing the upcoming The Fields.
