Tobey Maguire is set to again collaborate with director Ang Lee. Life of Pi will mark the third film (following Ride with the Devil and The Ice Storm) for the pair, Variety reports.
Maguire will play a writer in the long-anticipated film adaptation of Yann Martel’s bestselling novel. His character will interview Pi, a young boy (to be played 17-year-old newcomer Suraj Sharma) who finds himself stranded in a tiny boat for 227 days with a number of zoo animals, including a Bengal tiger, saved from his family’s ship before it sinks.
The film is also set to star Irffan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, and Adil Hussain.
Directing from a script by Finding Neverland‘s David Magee, Lee will shoot the entire film in 3D in Taiwan and India.
20th Century Fox has slated a holiday release for Life of Pi on December 14, 2012.
