Adrianne Palicki is set to headline Seth MacFarlane’s hourlong sci-fi comedy drama
A cast is beginning to come together for Seth MacFarlane‘s new science fiction dramedy series as The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Adrianne Palicki (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, GI Joe: Retaliation) has signed on to play a leading role.
From 20th Century Fox Television, the untitled series offers a comedic drama set 300 years in the future. It follows the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, a motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.
“I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid,” MacFarlane said previously of the series, “and the timing finally feels right. 20th and FOX have been good to me for many years, and of course, Dana and Gary have been fantastic bosses and true pals, so it was a no-brainer to come to them with the project. I think this is gonna be something special.”
According to the trade, Palicki will play Kelly Grayson, the new first officer of the Orville and the ex-wife of MacFarlane’s character, Captain Ed. Scott Grimes, who has previously worked with MacFarlane on Family Guy, is also part of the Orville crew. He’ll play a pilot named Gordon.
Seth MacFarlane wrote the pilot episode of the series and will also serve as executive producer and creator. Look for a 13-episode first season to debut in the 2017-2018 season.
Although Palicki’s Bobbi Morse left Agents of SHIELD last season, the original plan was to spin her off into her own series, Marvel’s Most Wanted. With her commitment to this new show, it remains to be seen whether or not we’ve seen the last of Mockingbird in the small-screen Marvel Universe.
