The first release under the two companies’ new agreement, THE KING’S SPEECH DVD heads to retail on April 19th. THE KING’S SPEECH has dominated this year’s awards lists, earning widespread critical acclaim and grossing more than $123 million at the North American box office thus far.

In addition to its Oscar® wins, the film’s 2011 honors include two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Cast and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Colin Firth); the PGA Award for Outstanding Producer of a Theatrical Motion Picture; the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film (Tom Hooper); the Golden Globe® for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama (Colin Firth); and Film Independent’s Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film. Written by David Seidler (Oscar® winner, Best Original Screenplay) and directed by Tom Hooper (Oscar® winner, Best Director), THE KING’S SPEECH has been hailed as “a masterpiece” (The New York Observer), a “…crowning achievement… ” (Rolling Stone), and “one of the finest moments in modern filmmaking” (Vogue).

After the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon) and the scandalous abdication of his brother King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce), Bertie (Oscar® winner for Best Actor, Colin Firth) — who has suffered from a debilitating speech impediment all his life — is suddenly crowned King George VI of England. With his country on the brink of war and in desperate need of a leader, his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see an eccentric speech therapist, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). After a rough start, the two delve into an unorthodox course of treatment and eventually forge a genuine friendship. Through this unexpected bond, the new monarch will overcome his stammer to find his voice, inspire his people, and rally the world. THE KING’S SPEECH is cinematic royalty: a magnificent production, studded with glittering performances, based on a true story of friendship, triumph and, ultimately, glory.

THE KING’S SPEECH Blu-ray? and DVD bonus features include an audio commentary with director Tom Hooper; a 20-minute “Making Of The King’s Speech”; archival footage of the actual King George VI; and much more.
