We reported here a few months ago that MVD Entertainment had locked the North American distribution rights to Western movie legend Tony Anthonys splattery, ridiculously blood, bats, breast and boots in-yer-face 3D cult classic shock-fest COMIN AT YA!, one the last and most unique of the spaghetti western cycle.

That film was released to DVD (in 2D) and on Blu-ray (in 2D and glorious 3D) on January 26th. Note that this is not the original full color version that premiered in 1981 and was subject to a dire anaglyph 3D DVD version in the 1990’s via Image Entertainment. A few years ago Anthony and producer Tom Stern revamped the picture, rendering much of the footage in black and white with digitally tweaked color explosions of blood and saturated color. The overall visual feel is an amalgam of SIN CITY and KILL BILL, the latter film of which has many moments that quote COMIN’ AT YA!

It’s still COMIN’ AT YA!, of course, and the new sheen makes the 3D even more effective. Still, purists be warned…

COMIN’ AT YA! was directed by Ferdinando Baldi (DJANGO, PREPARE THE COFFIN) and written, produced and starring spaghetti western legend Tony Anthony (GET MEAN, the sister 3D flick TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS), COMIN AT YA! is largely credited with the 3-D revival in the early 1980s that spawned other split-stereo flicks like AMITYVILLE 3D, JAWS 3D, PARASITE and FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3D.
