ARROW releases classic downmarket slasher THE MUTILATOR on February 15th.
A staple of 80’s video store-haunting horror movie addiction, Buddy Cooper’s brutally gory and cheerfully dumb 1984 slasher sickie THE MUTILATOR is coming to Blu-ray and DVD from Arrow Video UK, after being bumped from the Fall 2015 schedule. It’s one of the last truly vulgar 80’s body count serial killer flick and taken as such, it’s tons of fun.
Originally released theatrically as FALL BREAK, THE MUTILATOR was released in 2 versions via Vestron on VHS, one of which was the bloodless R version. It took this writer 10 years to finally see the full cut (the one represented here) and man, is it gross!
The FX come courtesy of the great Mark Shostrom (EVIL DEAD II, PHANTASM II and truly, this is Shostrom’s show. Hacks, slashes, eviscerations…all realized in spurting, gynecological detail.
Now, the plot…
When Ed receives a message from his father asking him to go and lock up the familys beach condo for the winter, it seems like the perfect excuse for an alcohol-fueled few days away with his friends. But no sooner are the teens on the island than they find themselves stalked by a figure with an axe (and a hook, and an outboard motor) to grind
