A Special Stop-Motion Animated Holiday Greeting from Krampus!

Enjoy this animated holiday greeting from Krampus!

Award-winning Canadian stop-motion animator Chris Walsh, the brain behind the Barbara Steele-starring horror short THE SHUTTERBUG MAN has given SHOCK a simple slice of Krampus-endorsed Holiday horror with this quickie blast of his craft.
Says Walsh:

“It started with simply wanting to make a Krampus puppet! He’s such a cool looking character: the horns, the fur, the tongue, the claws…Krampus has certain physical traits he’s known for, but the fun comes in giving it your own spin.  I wanted him to look threatening but also fun.

Once the puppet was done, it was a matter of figuring out how to use it create a little Christmas greeting. One thing I’ve come to like about the Krampus character is that it sort of pokes at the “shiny happy” surface of Christmas bit. I like Christmas, but it gets a bit much, to say the least.  So that led to the idea of Krampus somehow interrupting a standard, cheesy Christmas video with his own twisted greeting. I don’t know how he did it, but I guess if Santa can come down a chimney, Krampus can broadcast pirate signals into people’s computers.

The best part for me was animating Krampus’s crazy tongue. I’m happy with how it snakes around, all floppy and gross and slobbery.  I channeled my inner Gene Simmons to really get in the zone for that tongue animation, and I think it paid off. I bet Gene is a serious Krampus fan.”

Give it a look and share it with someone you love…or at least like a bit!
