A world premiere at this past weekends Stanley Film Festival in Estes Park, CO., Adam Egypt Mortimers unusual supernatural slasher, Some Kind of Hate has been acquired for release by Image Entertainment.
Gristly, intimate and often quite nasty, Some Kind of Hate tells the story of a troubled teen whos subjected to severe bullying. He accidentally conjures Moira Karp, a teenage girl pushed to commit suicide by bullies years ago. Moira is now a vengeful and unstoppable force on a mission of gruesome retribution. But when she goes too far, Lincoln must prevent her from spiraling out of control.
Ive heard Some Kind of Hate described as a slasher by way of Gregg Araki, and Im inclined to agree. The film looks terrific (anamorphic desert landscape) and is a bit poignant in its themes, while very cool in its conceit of a troubled supernatural killer who does harm to others by inflicting pain on herself.
