Director Billy OBrien is in Missouri, underway on the film adaptation of novelist Dan Wells I Am Not a Serial Killer, starring Christopher Lloyd, Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) and Laura Fraser.
Wells 2009 novel and the film concerns the young John Wayne Cleaver, who recognizes the violent impulses in himself and fights directly against them. Unfortunately that doesnt stop his Midwestern hometown from pointing the blame when a serial killer shows up. John soon takes the investigation upon himself.
Wells followed I Am Not a Serial Killer with Mr. Monster, I Dont Want to Kill You, Next of Kin and this years The Devils Only Friend. Of adapting the first book, director OBrien says, Dan Wells icky dark and funny novel to the big screen is like getting to play all day and being here in Minnesota, the home of the Coens and the setting for Fargo is inspiring us all. I have a fantastic team around me, some amazing actors and plenty of warm clothes!
OBrien previously helmed Irish horror Isolation, the 2005 film which features Badadook lead Essie Davis. I Am Not a Serial Killer is being shot by Robbie Ryan, who was cinematographer on this years Michael Fassbender-starring Sundance entry Slow West, which looks utterly fantastic. [Screen Daily]
