[Updated] First Poltergeist Images are Handsy

“We’re working to make a Poltergeist film that lives up to the original’s legacy,” says director Gil Kenan in a first look of the upcoming remake.

Speaking to USA Today, who debuted the first images from the film—one of which heralds another creepy clown doll—Kenan talks of his weighty cast, including Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Jane Adams, and calls the film “such an emotional story at the core. Parents fighting to get their child back from the beyond.”

The beyond is sort of highlighted in these stills, a lot of hands reaching toward a void, which Kenan makes sound ever present. It seems the passage nature of the television will be reflected in the handheld devices of today. And then there’s that doll, a nice and not too obviously sinister update of the original film’s iconic plaything. Poltergeist 2015 concerns the Bowen family, whose new fixer upper in the suburbs is of course inhabited by malevolent force. Harris plays a ghost hunter that comes to the family’s aid.

Poltergeist  is out July 24th from Fox. Expect a trailer for the film this Thursday, which you can now see a tease for, below.
