Spike Lee’s Da Sweet Blood of Jesus Now Available on Vimeo

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, Spike Lee’s reimagining of Bill Gunn’s cult favorite Ganja & Hess has been given an online release 30 days out from its theatrical.

As a new Spike Lee film, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is immediately a must-see. Considering its both his first horror feature as a director (he was a producer on Tales From the Hood and You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills Youand a remake of the stunning, confounding Ganja & Hess, I don’t understand how anyone can resist. Luckily, the Kickstarter-funded film has come to Vimeo a month before its limited theatrical release date of February 13th, a boon especially for those who live outside the more typical limited release cities.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is described as “a new kind of love story, one that centers on an addiction to blood that once doomed a long forgotten ancient African tribe. When Dr. Hess Green (Stephen Tyrone Williams) is introduced to a mysteriously cursed artifact by an art curator, Lafayette Hightower (Elvis Nolasco), he is uncontrollably drawn into a newfound thirst for blood that overwhelms his soul. He however is not a vampire. Lafayette quickly succumbs to the ravenous nature of the infliction but leaves Hess a transformed man. Soon Lafayette’s wife, Ganja Hightower (Zaraah Abrahams), comes looking for her husband and becomes involved in a dangerous romance with Hess that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society.”
