Paramount has scheduled their Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters for March 2, 2012, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter, who also add that MGM has stepped in as a co-financer to the Paramount project and the plan is now to shoot the film in 3D.
The release will put the action thriller up against some family-friendly fare in the form of Universal and Illumination Entertaiment’s animated Dr. Seuss adaptation, The Lorax.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will arrive from Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola and is set to star Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton and Femke Jansen. Set 15 years after the Grimm’s Fairy Tale siblings incident at the gingerbread house, the film finds Hansel and Gretel working as bounty hunters, tracking down supernatural beings.
While the Wirkola film is now planned for a 3D release, it should not be confused with the also-in-development film Hansel and Gretel in 3D, set to be produced by Michael Bay.
