I am not sure how I missed this at all, but shame on me. Yesterday, THR ran a report from CineEurope in which Paramount International's Edward Ryan previewed the studio's film slate for this year and beyond. In that write-up, we learned Paranormal Activity 5 was getting pushed to 2016 and that Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 was arriving that year as well. But as far as the 2015 slate was concerned: It seems the new Friday the 13th film we're getting November 13, 2015 will be in 3D.
Per THR:
That marked the end of the clips and showreels before the screening of Transformers, with Ryan first listing a host of upcoming big-budget projects planned for the remainder of 2015, including Terminator: Genesis, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the robot assassin; Friday the 13th in 3D; and Mission Impossible 5, directed by Chris McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise.
Interesting. Very interesting, no? The last time Voorhees appeared on screen in 3D was Friday the 13th Part 3!
Taking that 3D aspect into account, does this mean the long-rumored approach to doing this new Friday the 13th as a "found footage" film is dead? I mean…yes, there are a few "found footage 3D" films in the works, but would Paramount risk combining the two? Probably not. I'm now hearing rumblings that they've dropped the found footage angle, but we haven't been able to get a confirmation from director David Bruckner.
If we're going to be fed a Friday the 13th film with a gimmick, I'll take 3D over found footage. I'm sure you'll agree.
Platinum Dunes is one again producing the new film; the team there is also behind the 2009 reboot.
