John Carter of Mars, which recently played release date musical chairs with Prometheus, is about halfway done, says co-writer/director Andrew Stanton (WALLE, Finding Nemo).
He told MTV: “I’m not in post-production I’m in digital principal photography now, which goes on for the rest of 2011, so I’m only halfway through the movie.”
What can we expect when the big screen adaptation hits theaters on March 9, 2012? “I didn’t try to make it look like anything else. I really tried to make it its own thing. I tried to make a very historically accurate Martian film if that makes sense, so I’ll let you decipher that.”
Disney’s John Carter of Mars stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church and Willem Dafoe.
The adventure epic is set on the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings. Based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Barsoom Series,” the film chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter (Kitsch), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and Dejah Thoris (Collins).
