Stephen King Sounds Off on Shining Prequel

There was plenty of speculation as to which direction the prequel could turn.  The obvious choice: Focus on Delbert Grady.  But that’s a bit too obvious and we know how that story ends – with the murder of his wife and twin daughters (not that “knowing how something ends” has stopped a prequel from being made before).  Will Warner Bros. roll with the brutal axe murder of two little girls?  Or, does Mazzara have something fresh up his sleeve?  Something that sheds some more like on the sinister hotel?

Regardless of whatever Mazzara’s approach is, Stephen King is sort of “meh” on the whole thing.

The author tells EW:

I’m not saying I would put a stop to the project, because I’m sort of a nice guy. When I was a kid, my mother said, ‘Stephen if you were a girl, you’d always be pregnant.’ I have a tendency to let people develop things. I’m always curious to see what will happen. But you know what? I would be just as happy if it didn’t happen.

I feel you, Stevie.

King has a sequel to The Shining, “Doctor Sleep,” arriving this fall.  That I’m looking forward to…
