Trying to find the right tone
Here in Los Angeles, the LACMA began hosting a Tim Burton exhibit, showcasing props, early writings and artwork from the filmmaker. The Wrap caught up to Burton on the event’s opening night and he commented on how shooting Dark Shadows was progressing:
“Iâm just starting, and itâs a weird tone and itâs a lot of actors and, you know, weâre not starting with the simple stuff; weâre sort of getting right in there. You like to kind of sneak up on it a little bit, but this one we just kind of slammed right into it. [asked if it will have a soap opera quality] Yes, I donât know. Iâm early into it because itâs a funny tone, and thatâs part of what the vibe of the show is, and thereâs something about it that we want to get. But when you look at it, itâs pretty bad. Iâm hoping that it will be â itâs early days, letâs put it â Iâm very intrigued by the tone. Itâs a real ethereal tone weâre trying to go for and I donât know yet.”
He also added that he is not shooting the film for 3D.
Shadows stars an ensemble cast which includes Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote and Chloe Moretz. For a synopsis, hop into our film database.
