Sequel is in the works, say director
This is news to me, but apparently there’s been an effort on director Michael Bartlett’s part to do a sequel to the U.S. DVD release The Zombie Diaries (released theatrically in the UK). Bartlett co-helmed the film with Kevin Gates.
Bartlett stated, via his Twitter account, today: “Harvey and Bob Weinstein approve the US deal for The Zombie Diaries 2. Almost there.” I presume by saying “almost there,” Bartlett means they’re trying to lock down funding.
The first Diaries was released through the Dimension Extreme label. And it’s funny because the similarly themed and executed Diary of the Dead, by George Romero, was acquired by the Weinstein’s and released through Dimension, too. However, they didn’t get their paws on Romero’s follow-up Survival of the Dead. That film went to Magnet. So it appears the Weinsteins are trying to keep the zombie love going where they can.
