The actor on The Graves, 2001 Maniacs sequel
Shock Till You Drop caught up with fan fave actor Bill Moseley at tonight’s LA premiere of The Graves, now playing as part of After Dark Films Horrorfest 4.
“I didnât know Brian Pulido before doing The Graves,” says Moseley. “I actually liked working with him a lot. Heâs a first time director, but he was very collaborative and very encouraging. For me, although movies are a collaborative effort, you ultimately defer to the writer or director, but itâs fun to work together and try to find new things about the different scenes and different characters. Brian was very open to that and very generous.”
One project with Moseley’s involvement that we’re intrigued about is the new animated 3D take of Night Of The Living Dead: Origins from director Zebediah de Soto. The movie features the voice talents of Danielle Harris (Hatchet 2), Mos Def, Joe Pilato, Jesse Corti, Alona Tal and Cornell Womack. Moseley voices Johnny, whom ironically enough he also played in Tom Savini’s underrated 1990 remake of Night Of The Living Dead.
We asked, is it prequel, a remake or a bit of both? “First of all, itâs set in New York City, so it ends up following the story (of the original) but at the same time placing it instead of rural Pennsylvania, right in the middle of town. I think whatâs really cool about it is because itâs the animated process, you can really do things for the story elements that would normally cost a lot of money, like actually shooting in New York. Zebediahâs a really cool guy, heâs got a cool vision so Iâm really excited to be a part of that.”
Another project Moseley seems excited about is Tim Sullivan’s long awaited sequel 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, which the actor shot last summer. “I had certainly seen the first 2001 Maniacs and I loved it,” he confesses. “So it was a little daunting at first to be reprising a role that was made famous by Robert Englund. I know Robert and think he is an awesome actor and human being. I was a little worried about that at first. Tim was so welcoming and open. There was no doubt for him that I was his choice to play Mayor Buckman. So I didnât have to worry too much. The performance anxiety I could let go of pretty early on.”
When Shock spoke to the other cast members, they cited the Maniacs sequel as one of the most fun productions they’ve ever been a part of. Moseley agrees that it felt like a family affair in a number of ways. “It was fun to have Ogre on it after having worked on Repo! The Genetic Opera together. We became really good friends on Repo, so having him there helped. Also, my daughter Jane Moseley came out and worked in the art department for a couple of days. So that was great. The script is really devilishly funny, so I ended up relaxing and immediately having fun, while trying to honor Robertâs character.”
