From the director of Legion
While out chatting about his debut feature Legion, director Scott Stewart dropped some details about his next movie Priest, a vampire film also starring Paul Bettany which he seems genuinely enthusiastic about.
On the story, Stewart explains, “It takes place a generation after the war, a hundreds-year war between man and vampire, and the characters of the priests are like Jedi Knights that helped turn the tide. My focus is how now the vampire is vanquished, and society has moved on from you. You’re not the hero anymore, and people look at you like a freak. They won’t talk to you. And so we look at what happens after that if you’re called into service again. You end up questioning why you made those sacrifices to begin with.”
In the interview, he talks about how he didn’t want to do the “sexy vampire” as portrayed on HBO’s hit series True Blood, nor does he want his vampires to sparkle, an obvious reference to Twilight‘s tweeniverse. So what can we expect from the vampires in Priest? “These vampires are very feral and very violent. They are not human. They don’t talk English. They are not people at all, they’re digital characters. We’ve created a whole lore about them.”
