Trailer for Redo of Hitchcock’s The Lodger

Theatrical date is set for December

Coming in at the tail-end of 2008 is Sony’s The Lodger.

The thriller, drawing from the same material upon which Alfred Hitchcock’s 1928 film is based, is slated for a theatrical release on December 31st and you can now catch a preview at Apple.com right here.

Originally, we were informed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that Lodger was heading to DVD on February 10, 2009. Either this was done in error, or, Sony is planning a quick home video turnaround.

Starring Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, Simon Baker, Shane West and Phillip Baker Hall, Lodger follows a grizzled detective on the trail of a ruthless killer intent on slaughtering prostitutes along West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. It appears that the murderer’s grisly methods are identical to that of London’s infamous 19th century psychopath Jack the Ripper – a relentless serial killer who was never caught by police. To make matters worse, the detective soon notices the parallels between the crimes.

David Ondaatje directed from his own script.
