Mike Mignola, Chris Golden’s novel
Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden’s novel Baltimore, or The Steadfast Tin Solder and the Vampire stirred up a bidding war amongst the studios last fall before settling down at New Regency. David Goyer attached himself to direct; Mignola and Golden agreed to adapt the story for the screen.
When Shock caught up to Goyer at the San Diego Comic-Con Sunday, he told us a first draft of the script has just been turned in. “The book is not an easy adaptation and the draft – and I think [Mignola and Golden] would be the first to admit this – is very literary,” Goyer says. “So now we’re going to do a re-write with them. We’ll see. It’s still very early on and it’s a cool project, a quirky project. I was surprised when I got involved because when we took it out to studios, I thought it would be a hard sell. But there was lot of people interested in it.”
Baltimore is the story of the awakening of supreme evil on Earth. Lord Henry Baltimore is bitten by a demonic vampire bat on a WWI battlefield. The plague destroys his family, and Baltimore creates a team to hunt and fight the Red King, the embodiment of all evil.
