Chiwetel Ejiofor closing in on a role

Variety reports John Cusack (1408) will topline Roland Emmerich’s 2012 (last report), the end-of-the-world thriller that ultimately landed over at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
Redbelt‘s Chiwetel Ejiofor is also in talks to co-star. The studio is keeping the logline under wraps, but it is believed to revolve around the upcoming apocalypse predicted by the Mayans.
Emmerich and Harald Kloser wrote the script; the former intends to begin filming this July in Los Angeles pending the looming SAG strike.
