Darabont on Future King Projects!

Two more in the pipeline

Horror and Stephen King fans worth their salt have their peepers turned to one man right now: Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption). After years of talk, talk, talk, he finally did, did, did. The outcome is a feature adaptation of King’s novella, “The Mist” with Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden (Silent Hill), Andrew Braugher (‘Salem’s Lot) and William Sadler (gotta love the Sadler) to name a few who make up the ensemble cast. Dimension Films expects to roll out The Mist this November and Darabont, who just wrapped principal photography last week, is already talking about two more possible King films he’d like to do.

“I have the rights to two of his stories,” Darabont tells MTV. “One is ‘The Long Walk,’ which is a tremendously bizarre and powerful little piece. The other is ‘The Monkey,’ a very old-school chiller. They’re both very human character pieces. I suspect I’ll make them on even lower budgets than ‘The Mist.’ Hopefully I’ll be able to get to one or both this year.”

“The Long Walk” appeared in “The Bachman Books” in 1979 and was penned under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman. “The Monkey” appeared in the “Skeleton Crew” collection.
