Scooper ‘Blake Almstead’ noticed that the Real Steel production is building a set for the Hugh Jackman-starrer in the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. He reports:
They wrapped up shooting Hugh Jackman’s boxing gym and are about to film in the GM headquarters. They are installing the signage to make it look like the lobby and open area of the Renaissance Center is the home to a giant robot boxing arena. It says Motor City Robot Boxing on all the signs.
A quick domain search shows that Disney, which distributes DreamWorks’ movies, has registered WRB.com, which would surely play a part in the possible viral marketing for “World Robot Boxing” as seen in the banners below.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the November 18, 2011 release co-stars Evangeline Lilly, Dakota Goyo, Kevin Durand and Anthony Mackie. You can check out the pics below the synopsis…
A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
