Lionsgate, producers and star Tobin Bell will announce on Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con that Saw 3D, opening October 29, will be the final installment of the franchise.
“It’s time to stop,” producer Oren Koules told the USA Today, “We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell.”
The Kevin Greutert-directed film, also starring Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell and Sean Patrick Flanery, will feature 11 booby traps, double the average for previous films.
In Saw 3D, a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy and a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.
The film was re-edited and submitted six times to the MPAA to bring it from an NC-17 to an R rating. “I’m surprised we got it,” said producer Mark Burg. “It’s more violent than any of them. But it’s in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one.”
