Project Updates from Kevin Smith

Speaking with press to promote the DVD and Blu-ray release of Cop Out, Kevin Smith talked with ComingSoon.net about some upcoming films, namely Red State and Hit Somebody.

Red State plans to begin shooting in August and has locked its two leads. Smith said that he’s not yet ready to announce them but that he specifically cast actors who aren’t the biggest stars as part of the film’s aesthetic.

Hit Somebody, meanwhile, is still in the scripting stage but early plans are for it to shoot in Detroit sometime next year. The storyline, set entirely in the 1970s, closely follows the Warren Zevon ballad on which it is based and the current draft, right now around page 70, has just reached the end of the second stanza with the line, “Son, we’ve always got room for a goon.”
