FilmDrunk, which first broke the news that Alex Pettyfer was cast in DreamWorks’ I Am Number Four, has now learned that Kevin Durand (“Lost,” X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Aussie actor Callan McAuliffe are on board as well.
To be directed by D.J. Caruso from a script by Al Gough and Miles Millar, the sci-fi action adventure is an adaptation of the upcoming young-adult sci-fi book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes. It is scheduled for a release on February 18, 2011.
The story is about a group of nine earthbound alien teens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a hostile species. While the high school-aged kids assimilate, the title character (Pettyfer) discovers that he is being hunted by the enemy that blew up his planet.
Durand will play The Commander that is coming after Pettyfer’s character, while McAuliffe is playing Number Four’s best friend.
Sharlto Copley plays Henri, Number Four’s guardian and mentor who comes to Earth with him.
Teresa Palmer plays Number Six and Dianna Agron is Sarah, a girl dating the head jock who falls for Number Four.
