Filmmaker Oren Moverman, who scored two Oscar nominations for his directorial debut The Messenger, has added another cast member to his second feature film, the police drama Rampart: rapper Ice Cube.
The multi-hyphenate musician-actor-producer joins Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster, the stars of The Messenger, for a movie about a series of scandals in the Los Angeles Police Department’s CRASH (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) anti-gang program during the 1990s.
With a screenplay by crime novelist James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential, The Black Dahlia), the movie is slated to start shooting in Los Angeles in late August with Harrelson in the main role as an LAPD officer who gets caught up in the scandal and Foster and Cube playing fellow officers.
