Benicio Del Toro doesn’t think that the Collector will be making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
Casting is beginning to come together for James Gunn‘s much-anticipated Marvel Comics sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While many of the characters from the first film will be back, ComingSoon.net has today learned that fans should not expect the return of Benicio Del Toro as Taneleer Tivan, The Collector. We had the chance to speak with the Academy Award winning actor about his latest, Fernando Léon de Aranoa’s A Perfect Day, and got an update on his involvement (or lack thereof) with the “Phase Three” sequel.
“I don’t think so,” Del Toro said when asked about The Collector returning. “They would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”
So while the Collector may not be back for the May 5, 2017 release, Taneleer Tivan may be returning to the MCU somewhere down the road. After all, the Collector should still be in possession of one Infinity Stone. In a post-credits sequence to Thor: The Dark World, the Collector was given the Aether (the Reality Stone) for safe keeping. Del Toro, meanwhile, has a different science fiction adventure on the horizon. He’s part of the cast of the Rian Johnson-helmed Star Wars: Episode VIII, set for release May 26, 2017.
The confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, all returning as a band of unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. Kurt Russell is also said to be in talks to play Star-Lord’s mysterious father with more casting announcements expected to made soon.
