Vulture is reporting that The Book of Eli helmers Allen and Albert Hughes are negotiating to direct Warner Bros.’ live-action adaptation of Akira.
Written by Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. the film is produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way along with Andrew Lazar (upcoming Jonah Hex.)
According to the site, the studio is planning to make Akira in two parts, with the first three volumes of Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume manga making up the first film, due out next year.
