David Michod is following up Animal Kingdom with The Rover, which will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival as one of two films starring Robert Pattinson, who will also be walking the red carpet for David Cronenberg‘s Maps to the Stars.
Both look fascinating, though The Rover is certainly the more stripped down of the two, starring Pattinson alongside Guy Pearce in a dangerous and dysfunctional near future. Pearce plays Eric, a man whose left everything and every semblance of human kindness behind him. When his last possession, his car, is stolen by a gang of dangerous criminals, Eric sets off to track them down and is forced along the way to enlist the help of Reynolds (Pattinson), the naive member of the gang left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent escape. Scoot McNairy and Nash Edgerton co-star.
Following the Cannes premiere, A24 will bring the film to theaters on June 13, check out the clip below.
