Fox has released the first full-length trailer for Brad Furman‘s Runner, Runner starring Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton in a story revolving around illegal gambling, written by Rounders scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Timberlake stars as Princeton grad student Richie, believing he’s been swindled, travels to Costa Rica to confront online gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Affleck). Richie is seduced by Block’s promise of immense wealth, until he learns the disturbing truth about his benefactor. When the FBI tries to coerce Richie to help bring down Block, Richie faces his biggest gamble ever: attempting to outmaneuver the two forces closing in on him.
Furman last directed The Lincoln Lawyer starring Matthew McConaughey and the only thing that keeps me from looking at this and shrugging it off is the fact it was written by Koppelman and Levien, but for some reason that name — Ivan Block — and even Richie just sound wrong to me. Is that just me? Let me know what you think.
Runner, Runner hits theaters opposite Gravity on October 4.
